The general wisdom when designing a living room is to anchor the space with a neutral colored couch, and then bring in the pop of color and pattern with easy-to-swap pillows.
However, I’ve been seeing a great deal of beautiful patterned couches lately. Chalk it up to the mid-century modern trend.
I have a mid-century patterned couch (scored for $200 in mint condition from the Salvation Army!) that I’m in love with. When thinking about my new living room, my first thought was to buy a neutral couch to anchor the space. But the more research I do (um, Pinterest and home blogs), I’m leaning toward using my vintage piece to set the tone for the space.
What do you think? Here are some beautiful examples of both styles in action:

Which is your favorite?
I’m leaning toward building the room around my precious patterned couch and incorporating some of the bright and cheery feel found in the images above.
Stay tuned!

I love them both, which completely surprises me! I can’t wait to see which you end up with.
Thanks Brandi! I’ll definitely post pictures as it comes together!
